Creating 3D Snowflakes with Paper

We’ve created some beautiful 3D snowflakes using paper. This simple craft not only helps children practice their scissor skills but also demonstrates how folding paper allows us to replicate the shapes we cut, providing an indirect way to explore lines of symmetry.

After making the snowflakes, we used them on the light table to explore winter themes with cool colors (whites and shades of blue).

 

These snowflakes will eventually adorn our winter poster as well.

To create these 3D snowflakes, you only need a square sheet of paper.

 

First, fold the square into a triangle four times.

 



Once folded, make three cuts with scissors. The outermost cut will shape the perimeter of the snowflake, while the two inner cuts should not reach the end, allowing us to create the 3D effect.


 

Finally, when you unfold the paper, simply glue the tips of the intermediate cuts together at the center to achieve the 3D effect.
